Not too long ago I discovered Roosevelt Island NYC. I had passed by it several times before, but had no idea what was really there. It’s basically a 2 mile long island between Manhattan and Queens in the East River. It has a little bit of everything; Parks, historic buildings and ruins, some shopping, dining, a tram, a supermarket and high-rise buildings can all be found within the confines of the island. Even though it’s part of Manhattan borough, from what I hear the residential rates can be up to 30% less. I love the concept of the place, I hope to get over there soon and check it out in person. Speaking of, I made an offer on a condo in Hackensack, I should be finding out next week if the bank accepts it or not.
Forgotten NY – Roosevelt Island – An older (2005) guide of the island. Some renovations have been made since then, such as the new Octagon renovation and reopening the Smallpox Hospital Ruins in South Point Park.
Nick Carr: Main Street USA on Roosevelt Island – Call me crazy, but I love the simple generic and sterile quality of it all.
